General Information

Elly, Lesley, Lena, Robyn, Jackie, Sue, Gina and Glen have all been very impressed with how well all children have settled in to their new routines at school. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce out Meal Time Supervisors, who for RB will be Lisa and Jackie and for RS will be Linda and Aryan. On Tuesdays the children will also be working with Simmy (Music teacher), Aaron, Luca and Miss Georgia (P.E. coaches) and Mrs Bines (Art teacher.)

Our learning so far this term has been based around settling in and ‘Ourselves’ and linked to the children’s interests.  For the remainder of this half term our core text will be ‘The Little Red Hen.’ Next half term our literacy activities will be based ‘The Bog Baby’. Our R.E. topic for the first half term will be ‘Special People’ and for the second will be ‘Christmas.’ In addition to the parent/carer meetings this term to talk about how your child is getting on at school, we are also available after school if you have anything you wish to discuss.

Reading books and book bags – Please ensure that your child brings in their book bag each day. We invite you to come into your child’s classroom after school on your allocated day (see reading record) to change their books with them on a weekly basis. A member of staff will be available to support you in recording what book has been borrowed in both your child’s reading diary and in the classroom record folder. Please keep borrowed books and reading record diaries in your child’s book bag.

Phonics – After the October half-term we will begin the more formal daily phonics teaching sessions introducing different letters (graphemes) and their sounds (phonemes).  Each week we will send home the phonemes and words that have been learnt at school for you to practise with your child.  We will also be sending home phonetically decodable reading books, when we feel it is appropriate for your child, for you to support your child with their reading at home.

Clothing – It is essential that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly named.  We use both the indoor and outdoor learning environments regardless of the weather, please make sure your child has a pair of wellington boots in a named plastic bag on their peg so they are free to explore the outdoor environment at all times.

‘Read with me’ – After half term our weekly ‘Read with me’ sessions will start. This will be on a Wednesday morning. This is a chance for you to come into your child’s classroom with them once a week in the morning and share a book together before the register. We like to see as many parents/carers as possible each week and younger siblings are welcome too (please leave buggies outside). Sessions will be from 8.50 – 9.00 am.

Library – After half term we will begin our weekly visits to Osidge Library. RB and RS will visit the library for their story session on alternative Thursday afternoons. A letter will follow detailing the dates for each class. On the dates that your child is in the library, they will need to be collected from there at the end of the school day. When you collect them this is a chance for you join the library and borrow books to share with your child at home to support our local library service.

Cameras – We will be sending home two class cameras each week.  This is an opportunity for your child to capture some exciting images to share with the rest of their class.  Cameras will be borrowed on Friday and returned to school on a Monday morning and more information about this will follow after half term.

Tapestry – Please ensure that you check Tapestry on a regular basis to keep up to date with your child’s achievements and topics we are covering. We also use Tapestry to send home regular ‘Home Challenges’ of suggested activities or tasks that you can do at home to support your child’s learning and development.
