The aim of the School Council
To provide a forum for the discussion of issues raised by students or by staff (and Parents) which affect the life of the school. Listening and responding to the views of our pupils is very important to the school.
What is the School Council:
Every year we run an election campaign to vote for our new Representatives. The School Council is made up of two members of each class and they are voted for by their classmates, this usually takes place at the end of September. This is a very important role in school life. The School Councillors represent the views of the pupils of our school and we meet for twice termly meetings. The Meetings are overseen by our School Learning Mentor, Tracy and each child will take a turn to chair the meeting. The Representatives will speak at Council Meetings about things their class are interested in. They will also tell their class about what is going on in the Council Meetings and will be responsible for putting the minutes on display in their classrooms. The Representatives will encourage their class to come forward with ideas for the school. They also have meetings with the School Leadership team.
Some of the personal qualities which are helpful if you are thinking of being a school councillor are:
- Being able to work in a team
- A Good Listener
- Being helpful and honest
- A good role model
- Being able to share good ideas
